SAN ANTONIO PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES NATIONAL LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP MONTH DURING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER

SAN ANTONIO (August 29,2019) --- With the school year in full swing, San Antonio Public Library will join the American Library Association (ALA), and libraries nationwide, in celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month during the month of September.

In its 33rd year, National Library Card Sign-Up Month is a time when the ALA and all libraries raise awareness about the important role that libraries play in child development as well as in their pursuit of education. This year, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep and other Disney and Pixar “Toy Story 4” characters are honorary chairs for ALA’s 2019 National Library Card Sign-Up Month campaign. The characters will remind the public of the endless possibilities libraries have to offer people of all ages.

In addition to informing the public about the benefits associated with signing up for a library card, SAPL also aims to inform the public about the accessibility of signing up for and using a SAPL Library card. With easy to access online application and renewal processes, as well as self-check-out computers the SAPL app and Libby, SAPL wants patrons to feel that they are in control of their library card and their access to the opportunities that come along with it.

With a San Antonio Public Library card, users not only have access to countless editions of books, eBooks, movies, and music, but also a multitude of free online courses provided by Universal Class. Additionally, school-aged children can benefit from the free online homework help that is made available to students from kindergarten through college.

During the month of September, SAPL’s goal is to inform the public on the importance of obtaining a library card and of all the opportunities that SAPL library card’s provide users with. For more information about National Library Card Sign-Up month, please visit https://www.mysapl.org/.
