Jordan, Drew, and Liam are back for eighth grade at RAD (Riverdale Academy Day School) in Class Act by Jerry Craft, the sequel to Newbery Medal Winner New Kid. While Jordan returns as main character, this story focuses on Drew Ellis.
Drew can't help noticing how different he is from the other students at RAD with his dark skin and working class background. But, attending a fancy private school with rich, white kids also makes him feel different from the kids he grew up with in his neighborhood. As Drew struggles to figure out how people who are very different can be friends, he begins to realize that before he can accept others he needs to accept himself. Wouldn't it be nice if friendship came with a textbook?
