On Saturday, September 17 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Central Library will host the second annual Teen Arts Fest. The event is produced by teens from the Teen Library at Central. The Teen Arts Fest will feature teen musicians and digital artists from San Antonio Music Academy, Eclectic Electric from the Teen Library at Central, and the AM project; art workshops with Alex Rubio and Allison C. Valdivia; spoken word featuring Fresh Ink; short film screenings, dance, and more. This free event is for teens by teens in collaboration with other community partners who serve teens in the community. The San Antonio Public Library values partnerships and believes that more can be accomplished when partners work together toward a common goal.
The Teen Library at Central opened on May 12, 2015 and is a 6,000-square-foot space, located on the third floor of the Central Library. This dedicated space offers teens out-of-school learning opportunities to engage in a variety of cutting-edge activities. Spaces within the Teen Library include a “Pop-Lab” that allows teens to explore 3D printing and emerging technologies; a recording studio that allows teens to create content (video and music production); a Wi-Fi lounge area, gaming space and computer lab for projects; and the teen book and resource collection, which includes teen fiction, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) materials, Manga and graphic novels.
