San Antonio Public Library Reaches Seven Million Digital Downloads


San Antonio readers break an all-time record as the San Antonio Public Library reaches seven million digital downloads since its digital catalog launch in August 2007. The Lightning Thief from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan was officially the seven millionth digital download. In 2016, San Antonio Public Library became one of only a handful of library systems to reach one million digital downloads in a calendar year and continues the trend by reaching one million digital downloads within a six month timeframe.

San Antonio Public Library Pilots Fine Free Program

Items classified “juvenile” or “young adult” qualify for fine free checkouts

In an effort to make Library materials more accessible to children and teens, the San Antonio Public Library, will not be charging overdue fines for books and materials classified as “juvenile or “young adult” during a pilot program. The pilot program, which launched softly on June 3, will extend through spring 2020 at which time it will be evaluated based on community feedback.

Learn at SAPL Launches Free Digital inclusion Certificate Program Available to All San Antonio Residents

In celebration of Digital Inclusion Month and in partnership with the Digital Inclusion Fellowship, Google Fiber and the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, the San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is now offering a free Digital Inclusion Certificate Program. The Certificate Program, available through spring 2020, offers classes at the Library’s four Learn at SAPL centers and includes class options to grow digital skills at your own pace. The program is aimed to help those seeking jobs and looking for job advancement as well as anyone who needs computer skills of any level. The classes are available in group settings and through one-to-one learning with a certified trainer. Five classes must be completed to earn a certificate

Renowned Artist Jesse Treviño To Visit the Central Library to Discuss His Life and Work

A book discussion and meet-and-greet with renowned artist Jesse Treviño and internationally known journalist Anthony Head as they introduce the book, “Spirit: The Life and Art of Jesse Treviño.” The discussion will be moderated by Robert Rivard, editor and publisher of the Rivard Report.

There will be a book signing following the program. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
