Join Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran to learn more about folk tales and the important role they play in telling a community's story. Folk tales are the "stories of the people" who express their beliefs about their world and experiences. These tales are passed down from generation to generation and play an important role in bringing a community’s story to life. The entire family is invited to explore the variety of folk tales and folklore from around the world with fun crafts like DIY worry dolls, puppets, and more. Former San Antonio and Texas Poet Laureate Dr. Carman Tafolla will entertain visitors with her storytelling and readings.

Our Family Reads: The Mayor’s Book Club was created by Mayor Ron Nirenberg to encourage families in the community to read along with him and members of City Council about some of their favorite topics, and to cultivate a community experience.

This month, check out books for family members of all ages, fiction and nonfiction, that focus on folk tales. Visit guides.mysapl.org/mayorron for a list of book suggestions and to learn more about upcoming topics. Visit mysapl.org or call 210-207-2500 for a complete schedule of programs.
