Harlandale ISD Teams Up with San Antonio Public Library to Modernize Reading and Literacy through E-books and E-audiobooks

Shared goal to promote digital learning in the community

The city partnership provides safe access to thousands of age-appropriate titles for students’ use inside the classroom, at home and anywhere 24/7. Through Sora, the new student reading app for Harlandale ISD, students can borrow the school’s collection of classroom and pleasure reading, and also access San Antonio Public Library’s juvenile and young adult digital collection. In addition, Sora supports teachers by offering education-specific tools like achievements, exportable notes, and reading progress that encourage individualized learning.

“The San Antonio Public Library is excited to partner with Harlandale Independent School District by providing students access to the Library’s digital catalog through Sora,” said Ramiro S. Salazar, San Antonio Public Library Director. “Through this initiative, Harlandale students will have direct access to the Library’s 200,000+ digital materials. We feel that providing students with this resource will play an essential role in their education, while opening doors that may not have been previously accessible.”

Lisa Kulka, Harlandale ISD Libraries and Instructional Materials Coordinator adds, “We’re thrilled to partner with the San Antonio Public Library to provide even more ebooks and audiobooks to our students using Sora. Now our students have access to even more age-appropriate digital materials without the requirement of a public library card!"

The Sora app is available for Harlandale ISD students to download through the Apple® App Store and Google Play™ Store, and on Chromebooks™. It is also available for use in web browsers at on any computer.
