January 31 in San Antonio history...

1901
Steve Brodie, who gained fame by supposedly jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge in 1886, dies in San Antonio of consumption at the age of 38.  His name lives on in pop culture, as “pulling a Brodie” is a term for trying a daredevil stunt at great risk to one’s self.  Also, the “Brodie knob” accessory attached to a steering wheel is named for him.
