February 19 in San Antonio history...

The first passenger train (Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio) arrives in the city.  The public celebrates with a torchlight parade.

Mrs. Mamie Bradley, mother of Emmett Till, speaks at the Carver Library (now the site of the Carver Community Cultural Center) on the murder of her son and subsequent murder trial.

Five paintings, all by renowned Impressionist Renoir, worth more than $100,000 are stolen from the Marion Koogler McNay art museum shortly before 10 p.m.  “They obviously had made expert preparations,” said museum director John Palmer Leeper.  “Stanley Smith Security agents were at the museum within five minutes after the silent alarm sounded, but they had already escaped.”
