June 3 in San Antonio history...

1946
In a secret meeting today, restrictions due to the polio epidemic were continued until further notice by the city health department, but the age limit of the restrictions was lowered from 21 to 18 years of age.  Those above the age of 18 are free to go to theaters, parks, restaurants and other public places.

1948
The San Antonio Television Company today was granted a permit for construction of a new station by the Federal Communications Commission. The estimated cost will be $194, 500. It will operate on channel No. 5 with visual power of 17.9 kilowatts.  (This will eventually become WOAI-TV.)

1965
San Antonian Ed White becomes the first astronaut to “walk” in space when he opens the hatch of his Gemini 4 capsule and floats outside.
