1944

Seventy-six years ago today, the long-anticipated Allied invasion of the European continent begins.  Today is D-Day!  The invasion force of 156,000 Allied troops, along with 5,000 ships and landing craft and 11,000 planes fight the German defenders along the beaches of Normandy, France.

1946
Three new cases of polio were reported, bringing the total to 48.  The inspection department completed an inspection of 490 pit toilets, 256 of which were sprayed.  Over 40 gallons of kerosene were used.

1997
Macy’s holds its grand opening in the former Marshall Field’s location in North Star Mall.
