San Antonio Public Library recognized nationally with honorable mention for Library of the Year

San Antonio Public Library earns recognition for 2020 Library of the Year Award and two other prestigious awards

SAN ANTONIO (June 5, 2020) – San Antonio Public Library is proud to announce it has been selected as one of two libraries in the United States and Canada for the designation of “Honorable Mention” for Library Journal’s 2020 Library of the Year Award. The Library of the Year Award is presented on an annual basis to one finalist library and two “Honorable Mention” libraries that best demonstrate service to the community, creativity, and innovation in developing specific community programs, as well as libraries who experience a dramatic increase in library usage and demonstrate leadership in creating programs that can be emulated by other libraries. Any library in the United States or Canada is eligible to be nominated for the honor. There are more than 116,000 libraries in the United States.

 

The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) was informed it was being recognized as a role-model library for serving as a community anchor, eliminating barriers to access, and positioning the Library as an essential community resource.

 

“San Antonio Public Library is honored to be nationally recognized as a high-performing public library committed to serving the community at a higher level of excellence. This award acknowledges the efforts and dedication of our staff to serve our community at the highest level of customer service. It also reflects the library's commitment to reducing barriers to library access and building a forward-thinking 21st century library,” said Ramiro S. Salazar, Library Director. “We are grateful to receive these recognitions and to continue to identify innovative ways to serve our patrons.”

 

 

SAPL’s Library of the Year honorable mention recognition comes at the footsteps of two other awards. Earlier this year, Haley Holmes, SAPL Public Services Administrator, was named one of Library Journal’s 2020 Movers & Shakers. Additionally, the Texas Library Association also recognized SAPL as an honorable mention for the Texas Library Association’s Branding Iron Award for the Nature Smart Libraries Initiative in 2019.
