San Antonio Public Library to Upgrade Data Management System

System upgrades will cause limits to Library services between August 10 and 24

SAN ANTONIO (AUGUST 5, 2020) – The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is excited to announce an upgrade to its information management system! SAPL’s new system will include upgrades such as:

  • Improved notifications for holds and other account-related information
  • Enhanced access to online resources and services for easier browsing
  • Improved catalog descriptions and details to give better access to the Library's collection
  • Other features that will support future Library enhancements

While SAPL transfers data over to the new system, some interruption of services will occur. We encourage patrons to place holds as soon as possible so they have plenty to read, watch, and listen to during these interruptions.

SAPL services NOT available during the transfer (August 10 – 24) include:

  • The ability to place or cancel holds (on physical items only)
  • The ability to access patron accounts including via the mySAPL app

Contact-Free Pickup will also be suspended from August 21 - 22, Friday and Saturday. Contact-Free Pickup will not be available for a total of four days as all Library locations are currently not offering services on Sunday and Monday. Book drops will remain open. The new system, which includes improved notification processes, enhanced access to online resources and services, and improved catalog descriptions and details, will be fully up and running by Tuesday, August 25.

During this time, public computer use by appointment will still be available at nine locations. For more information on computer use, visit, Please note that digital downloads will not be affected by this transfer and our Digital Library will continue to be available 24/7 at
