February 13 in San Antonio history...

A long-distance telephone has been put into the lobby of the Menger Hotel.

On this day in 1913, Ignacio E. Lozano founded La Prensa, a Spanish-language daily newspaper published in San Antonio to address the needs of Mexicans residing temporarily in the United States who wished to follow events in Mexico, which was engulfed in the Mexican Revolution.

Marcus Loew, theatrical syndicate owner,  is in San Antonio today.  He plans to either take over the Grand Opera House and remodel it for vaudeville or erect a new playhouse.
