The life of Celia Cruz/ La vida de Celia Cruz

Class Act by Jerry Craft

Celia Cruz was born in Cuba in 1924, and she was born to sing. Her music helped sooth her thirteen brothers and sisters at bedtime and bring joy to her neighbors. She even travelled with one of her sisters across Cuba to sing in music competitions. As Celia grew up, she sang with many famous musicians in Mexico and the United States. She even helped to create a new type of music - salsa!

My Name is Celia/Me llamo Celia by Monica Brown is a bilingual story filled with rhythmic language and colorful illustrations that will entice readers to clap, shake, and dance as they learn more about the life of Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa.
