September 25 in San Antonio history...

1916
The work done in widening the San Antonio River and clearing the channel of obstructions saved the city this morning from a repetition of the disastrous flood from two years ago.  The heavy rain storm of 2.3 inches that visited San Antonio at daybreak was even more severe in the Olmos valley and about 4:15 a.m. the water reached its high mark which, on former occasions, meant a flood in town because of the inability of the San Antonio River to carry off the burden.

Radio station WOAI (“World OAgricultural Information”) transmits its first radio broadcast. It is the third radio station in San Antonio (right).

“The Flintstones” premieres on ABC television affiliate KONO-TV Channel 12 at 7 p.m.  The primetime cartoon was created in color but broadcast in black & white until the third season. They are also sponsored by Winston cigarettes!
