Meet the Author: Dr. David Spener at Central Library

Trinity Professor to discuss historical significance of “We Shall Not Be Moved” slave spiritual in honor of Black History Month

Dr. David Spener of Trinity University will tell the story of how the song “We Shall Not Be Moved” began as a slave spiritual in the early nineteenth century and later became an anthem for the labor and African American civil rights movements in the United States.

San Antonio Public Library Winds and Words of War WWI Poster Exhibit to Leave for Two- Year Tour of Europe

The Bexar County Commissioners Court commitment to the history of this community and its military legacy is demonstrated by its sponsorship for the European tour

The San Antonio Public Library and the San Antonio Public Library Foundation are excited to announce that Winds and Words of War, a library-owned vintage collection of WWI propaganda prints and posters, will be leaving this month on a two-year tour of Europe. The exhibit will be displayed at Museum The Kennedys in Berlin, Germany; Justus-Liebig-Haus in Darmstadt, Germany; Wiltshire Museum in Devizes, United Kingdom; The Franco-American Museum in Cháteau de Biérancourt, France; and Musée de la Grande Guerre in Pays de Meaux, France.

Director and producer of A day without a Mexican (2004) discusses Tijuana Jews as part of The Holocaust: Learn & Remember

Meet award-winning director and producer Isaac Artenstein at Central Library on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:30 p.m.  His work includes Ballad of an Unsung Hero (1983), Break of Dawn (1990), Love Always (1996), and A day without a Mexican (2004). As part of The Holocaust: Learn & Remember, Artenstein  will discuss Tijuana Jews, a one-hour documentary shown in festivals all around the world.

San Antonio Public Library reaches One Million Digital Check Outs through OverDrive in Calendar Year 2016

The Scorch Trials: The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner is 1 millionth digital item checked out in 2016

The San Antonio Public Library has joined a prestigious group of public libraries who have reached over one million digital items checked out in calendar year 2016 through OverDrive. Overall, the San Antonio Public Library lent 7.3 million items in fiscal year 2016.
