Mysteries, how-tos, and popular series top the list of San Antonio Public Library’s most popular check outs of 2017

San Antonio Public Library celebrated an exciting milestone in 2017 - the checkout of the system’s four millionth digital item, and the number is growing daily. In fiscal year 2017, San Antonio Public Library card holders checked out approximately 7.2 million items. Of those check outs, 17% were digital items. The Library added nearly 30,000 titles to the collection in 2017, including new titles and additional copies of card holder favorites. Mysteries and whodunits dominated the list of San Antonio Public Library’s most popular adult fiction check outs (print) of 2017. When it came to adult non-fiction, San Antonio was interested in World War II, tidying up, and studying for the GED. Kids, tweens, and teens’ reading list was dominated by the popular series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Digital checkouts included similar titles and topics as print checkouts, in a mix of format preferences (eBook or eAudiobook). The list also illustrated San Antonio’s continued love of Harry Potter.
