SAN ANTONIO (August 20, 2019) – In this mobile age, technology has become increasingly valuable in supporting new generations of lifelong learners and readers. Now, Harlandale ISD and San Antonio Public Library have formed an innovative new partnership using ebooks and e-audiobooks to modernize access to reading materials for students. This unique collaboration strives to promote literacy and digital learning by providing unprecedented access to both the schools’ and the library’s digital reading resources in one app. The combination of convenience, ease of reading on-the-go, and the inherent popularity of technology inspires students to learn anytime, anywhere.

San Antonio readers break an all-time record as the San Antonio Public Library reaches seven million digital downloads since its digital catalog launch in August 2007. The Lightning Thief from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan was officially the seven millionth digital download. In 2016, San Antonio Public Library became one of only a handful of library systems to reach one million digital downloads in a calendar year and continues the trend by reaching one million digital downloads within a six month timeframe.

Items classified “juvenile” or “young adult” qualify for fine free checkouts

In an effort to make Library materials more accessible to children and teens, the San Antonio Public Library, will not be charging overdue fines for books and materials classified as “juvenile or “young adult” during a pilot program. The pilot program, which launched softly on June 3, will extend through spring 2020 at which time it will be evaluated based on community feedback.
