If you enjoyed Louis Sachar’s hilarious Wayside School series, The Unteachables by Gordon Korman is the perfect book for you!
At Greenwich Middle School, classroom 117 is reserved for students who are labeled unteachable. There is Parker, who can’t decode words, Elaine, who rhymes with pain, Rahim, who falls asleep every day, and Kiana, who wanders to the class after her stepmother fails to register her with the school. Mr. Kermit, the burned-out teacher of classroom 117, hasn’t taught any of his classes in decades and is merely counting down the days until he can retire at the end of the school year. When his retirement is threatened, however, the class must band together to prove that they are capable of learning. Over the course of the school year there is a lot of mischief, a lot of hilarity, and a lot of heartwarming moments.
